Beauty Vs. Brains Tag

I saw the gorgeous Joelle at February Girl's post about this tag and instantly felt inspired! This is not just a fun post to do, I also want to prove that (although I have absolutely NO common sense whatsoever or any sense of Geography/direction) even though I study fashion design which isn't considered 'academic' I do have more than 2 brain cells to rub together. Plus I'm a massive closet nerd, sorry guys!

1. Favourite book

Oh dear, I have thought long and hard about this. I have always been such a massive bookworm so picking a favourite is ridiculous because it completely depends on my mood. However, there are 2 books that I will always go back to and the spines on my copies are falling to pieces, 'Little Women' and 'Wuthering Heights' are books I've been obsessed with since I was a kid. Also the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series has me totally hooked.

2. Favourite quotation

'One day your life will flash before your eyes, it's on you to make it worth watching' I'm doing my best to live by this, life is far too short I want to make the most out of every single day. I think it may have been Gerard Way who said this oddly enough (my 13 year old self is subconsciously trying to get back out) but I find it so inspiring.

3. English or Maths?

I have to admit I'm a total Maths nerd, there's just something about numbers I seem to understand. I hate it but I can do it, I took Maths and Further Maths at AS level but I decided to focus on my art and textiles subjects the year after to prepare for uni.

4. Science or Art?

Easy peasy...ART! Science and me never clicked.

5. Favourite and least favourite subject at school?

My favourite was by far Textiles (obviously) closely followed by A Level Psychology and least favourite was easily Physics. Great for when you're suffering from a touch of insomnia.

6. Favourite celebrity with a brain?

Gaga is my favourite full stop haha! Honestly though, she is a very intelligent woman and an inspiration in a lot of ways. Or Sarah Burton, she's running a fashion empire for goodness sakes! She must have a brain somewhere in there to keep on top of everything whilst keeping the memory of Lee McQueen alive.

7. If you could study anything anywhere, what would it be?

Fashion Design...anywhere

8. What is your 'nerdy little secret'?

Oh I have far too many to mention! I think my most out-of-character is I'm a massive history nerd. I hated it in school because they mostly focused on WWI and WWII but I love watching documentaries and Time Team is my go-to daytime TV!

9. Favourite beauty gurus who you admire for more than their love for beauty/fashion?

Zoella is one I admire for her honesty, success and for being the first person to make me realise that having problems with anxiety is a lot more common than I had ever thought. Sam Chapman over at Pixiwoo is amazing, she started off as a vlogger and blogger like many of us and now she has an amazing line of Real Techniques make up brushes which the majority of beauty obsessives own at least one! (Me not included...boo you money!)

10. Name some things you're obsessed with that other people would find strange.

Time Team? Mark Rothko? My oddly large collection of thimbles?

11. Name 5 people that inspire you (not friends or family)

Oh dear all I want to say is my mummy (awwhh) but outside of friends and family I am massively inspired by Coco Chanel (shocker). This isn't just because I'm a fashion student but because of what she stood for. Women were constrained to the corseted figure for years, but she is credited with the liberation of this potentially life-threatening silhouette. She broke barriers, shocked people and was incredibly controversial but she stood up for what she believed in and succeeded!

The ever fabulous Lady Gaga! I want to work for her, designing for her is my dream! She proves that it's okay to be bonkers and be yourself no matter what.

Henry Holland. He inspires me so much as a designer, he started off doing what I do now. Making clothes and blogging from his bedroom...hopefully one day I'll be where he is today.

Mary Portas is an inspiration to a lot of people I think, she is so intelligent and knowledgeable within her field and her incredible drive and determination is something I admire her for.

Kate Middleton embodies grace, style, class and elegance and I think everyone can learn a few lessons from a true Princess.

12. Who is your intellectual soul-mate?

I love a bit of Stephen Fry!

  1. I love maths too! Especially algebraic equations, it just clicks with me! And I'm a sucker for a good Time Time episode too, haha! :)
