Travel Diaries: Uzbekistan

Hey There! Howdy! Assalom Aleykum!

Now you all know I love a bit of travelling right? So when my university (UCLan) teamed up with Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry in Uzbekistan, I jumped at the chance to see a completely different part of the world. All I can say is I experienced a stunning city, wonderful people and extremely talented students!

I'd recommend Tashkent to anyone, I'd go back if I had the chance and I can't wait to see what work our universities collaborations produce in the future.

Life Update 2014

Hello my lovelies!

Hey guys, long time no see. Ohh I'll skip all the mushy stuff for you and just get right on into the good stuff. Sooo what is the 411, what has everybody been talking about?

Since we last talked a lot has changed surprisingly. I have finished 2nd year of uni (thank god, fashion I love you but you cause me physical pain), got an amazing boyfriend and somehow managed to get myself a work placement next year! I have come on leaps and bounds this academic year and I am determined to keep it up, and keep it documented on this home we call the Internet.

I don't start work until August so I decided to set myself some goals:

1. Go away somewhere in the UK, I feel like I haven't seen enough of my own country

2. Blog at least twice a week (feel free to tell me off if I'm being naughty on this one, my twitters over on your right)

3. Make my own clothes

4. Open an Etsy shop

So how have you all been?

Do you have an Summer goals?

Blogging Break

Hello my old blogging buddies!

It's been waaaay too long but just give me a minute to explain my absence. If any of you have followed me from day 1 (over a year now…what) you will know I am a fashion design student. For any fashion design students reading this, you will understand before I even begin so you guys can get on with your merry lives. Basically I have no time for, well, anything. Therefore my wonderful little blog which I love with all my heart has had to take a back seat. Until now. I am back and more excited than ever! I will be sharing my usual weirdo self, some beauty stuff and I will be including you on my little crafty journeys! I am a fashion student after all so stay tuned for some sew-alongs and patterns.

I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has continued to follow, read and comment despite it being months since I last updated. I promise I will make it up to you!

Thank you for your patience and I'm sorry for how long it has been!

Fear

Hello my little muffins!

I know I've already posted today, I was all organised and had it scheduled a few days ago but I've been in an odd mood the last few days. Rather than bottle it all up I decided to write about it...and post it on the Internet...like a normal person. Bloggers logic!

Today I'm going to talk about something that I've not really seen much on this here blogosphere we call home. Fear. I apologise how truly awfully cheesy this post will be.

I'm not talking about being squealy when a spider runs across the bathtub or (if you're me) passing out when someone cuts themselves. I'm talking about the sort of gut-wrenching, panic-inducing, heart-racing kind of fear that plagues us all at one time or another. Sometimes it's serious things that create this kind of fear, sometimes it's just a little thing that completely freaks you out.

For me, it's been something that has been building all summer and has just taken over the last few days.
The fear I'm not doing the right thing with my life.

It almost makes me feel silly to think this way. I am so driven and passionate about the fashion industry and have been from a young age so why should this fear even cross my mind? I work hard, I get good grades on a course I love and I surround myself with the industry I couldn't live without. It's the future that terrifies me. I know I want to be a designer but at the same time I love doing this. Writing, photographing, blogging. Can I fit both into my life and be successful? I don't even know what sort of designer I want to be yet, I have a few more years to go of my degree but I have to do a work placement next year and I couldn't even begin to come up with a brand I want to work for. I feel like time is ticking away all too fast.

So what do I do with these fears? Am I not meant to admit to them? Do I learn from them or let them consume me? I have no clue! Sometimes we can 'grow some balls' and just push past them; but sometimes there are days when we just can't. And there's nothing wrong or abnormal about that. Fear is one of the most powerful emotions we have as human beings, it's what we do with it that counts.

Tea, so easily pleased.

3. Your favorite thing about yourself?

Mid-Year Life Assessment

Now I know this isn't exactly halfway through the year but I was inspired by reading Zoella's latest post and, considering my already reflective mood, decided to follow suit.

The name of this blog doesn't just symbolise my need to inject colour into my wardrobe, it symbolises my need to inject colour into my entire life. To push myself to do new things and strive to be the happiest and best person I can be.

Over the last 6/7 months I feel like I have done just that. Grabbing life by the balls and not giving a crap about what other people might say.

This has been a slow process though, over the last couple of years really I have been trying to be a better judge of character in an attempt to surround myself with good, caring people. I found myself surrounded by people who didn't have as much time for me as I did for them, they made me desperately unhappy and putting a stop to that made me feel like I was taking back some of the control I felt I'd lost.

This year, these feelings started to creep back again so these past few months I have started this process all over again. I give a lot to my friendships and relationships; having people around you that at least give a rats arse about you is something I think everyone deserves. It may surprise you that you actually can CHOOSE your friends, you aren't obliged to do anything.

This has resulted in (now I'm home from uni and all my friends are scattered across the country) me being alone a lot of the time. However, it makes me appreciate my true friends all the more and makes me appreciate all the time I get to spend with them.

I have pushed myself to do new things this year, I have been travelling for one! It scared the living daylights out of me but I managed to do it, and I met some incredible people. You can see my post here. I have driven long distance, joined a gym, dyed my hair wonderous colours and generally just smiled more.

As for actually wearing more colour, I think you guys can judge that! All my hauls and lookbooks and OOTD posts seem to be getting brighter and crazier by the minute! Maybe its how happy I'm feeling right now that is coming out in my personal style, or maybe I am just going round the bend.

You can check out my new years resolutions post here.

So What? I like Cake!

Well hello there! This is going to be a slightly more serious (and cheesy) post but it's something that I feel incredibly strongly about so, why not share it with you guys!

This weekend I went to London to meet up with some friends and something happened that really annoyed me. The thing that particularly got me was that they didn't understand why I was so mad. We were in a club and a girl came onto one of my friends. One of the others then took a photo and started laughing at it. I asked them what was so funny...their answer 'she's fat'.

Now I am not the skinniest of girls, I sometimes get a little down about certain parts of my body but who doesn't? I am a happy, healthy size 12 girl who eats well and exercises. I look after myself and as long as I know I'm healthy on the inside, the outside will take care of itself. I am proud of the fact that my bum should have its own postcode. So what if my thighs jiggle when I walk?

What makes me so sad is that we live in a world where everyone (not just girls) are made to feel like we have to look a certain way. Our bodies should be perfect, we shouldn't get spots or stretch marks and we should always look like we stepped out of a magazine. Boobs and bums have to be perfect, muscles a certain size. People who are comfortable in their own skin are deemed strange and, to be honest, in the minority. But this isn't real life.

People who are happy with themselves should be celebrated. We are all beautiful in our own way. I know that sounds so ridiculously cheesy but it's true! That's one of the reasons why I love fashion, yes it has the power to drive people to do unthinkable things to their bodies, but it also has the power to make someone feel beautiful. Everyone has had that moment when they've put on 'that dress' or 'those jeans' and just felt incredible.

The message I'm trying to get across is, if you are happy in your own skin, who cares what everyone else thinks. Stop trying to be someone else's idea of perfect and focus on just being you. There will always be those idiots who will find faults and think it's okay to laugh, but if they're that stupid, are they really worth paying attention to?

Embrace your body, no matter what shape or size you are.

Europe Shenannigans

Well hello there blog lovelies! It feels like it has been forever and a day since I was last sat here typing away. As some of you know I have been off backpacking around Europe for the last month and I thought I'd share a teeny glimpse into what can only be described as the best month of my life.

Our Journey...
Olso
Copenhagen
Berlin
Prague
Amsterdam
Dusseldorf
Zurich
Milan
Rome
Pisa
Nice
Marseille
Paris

Oh yeah we went all out with the travel. My favourite place by far has to be Paris, such a beautiful clean and inspiring city. Totally and utterly in love! I now have a very destroyed bank balance but I did manage to pick up a few Parisian beauties which I will review for you at a later date! I have had an amazing time, met some unforgettable people and done some pretty incredible things. I want to continue to travel our beautiful world...I'm hooked!

Has anyone else been travelling this Summer?

We Like Short Shorts?

Hello my lovelies! I have missed you! Well after a uni-stress filled few weeks I am officially BACK with a lot of ramblings and fashion/beautyisms for you all. I apologise for starting on a bit of a rant but I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this a major Summertime problem.

I dont consider myself to be 'fat', in fact I loathe the word but at a size 12 I am a naturally curvy shape. My bottom half definitely takes up most of the 'curvier' side of me but I try my best to dress this well and I am proud of my natural round bottom and chunky thighs. This said, I don't want to walk round with my bum cheeks hanging out thank you very much. Come summer, every high street on the planet seems to stock a ton of gorgeous shorts which I drool over but as soon as I grab them and toddle off to the changing rooms I realise that they barely cover...well anything. Either this or they're pretty much knee-length. I want to be able to get my legs out like the next person but I shouldn't have to get my bum out aswell in my opinion. I have spent hours and hours going round shops and websites trying desperately to get the right fit and length but nowhere seems to cater for us inbetweeney girls! Come on it's not hard!

If its denim, printed, statement, culottes or whatever; I want some wonderful brand to pop up and design me a pair of shorts that makes me FEEL good aswell as LOOK good. So get on it high street!

Does anyone else feel like this is a major issue? Oh how odd my mind works...

Beauty Vs. Brains Tag

I saw the gorgeous Joelle at February Girl's post about this tag and instantly felt inspired! This is not just a fun post to do, I also want to prove that (although I have absolutely NO common sense whatsoever or any sense of Geography/direction) even though I study fashion design which isn't considered 'academic' I do have more than 2 brain cells to rub together. Plus I'm a massive closet nerd, sorry guys!

1. Favourite book

Oh dear, I have thought long and hard about this. I have always been such a massive bookworm so picking a favourite is ridiculous because it completely depends on my mood. However, there are 2 books that I will always go back to and the spines on my copies are falling to pieces, 'Little Women' and 'Wuthering Heights' are books I've been obsessed with since I was a kid. Also the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series has me totally hooked.

2. Favourite quotation

'One day your life will flash before your eyes, it's on you to make it worth watching' I'm doing my best to live by this, life is far too short I want to make the most out of every single day. I think it may have been Gerard Way who said this oddly enough (my 13 year old self is subconsciously trying to get back out) but I find it so inspiring.

3. English or Maths?

I have to admit I'm a total Maths nerd, there's just something about numbers I seem to understand. I hate it but I can do it, I took Maths and Further Maths at AS level but I decided to focus on my art and textiles subjects the year after to prepare for uni.

4. Science or Art?

Easy peasy...ART! Science and me never clicked.

5. Favourite and least favourite subject at school?

My favourite was by far Textiles (obviously) closely followed by A Level Psychology and least favourite was easily Physics. Great for when you're suffering from a touch of insomnia.

6. Favourite celebrity with a brain?

Gaga is my favourite full stop haha! Honestly though, she is a very intelligent woman and an inspiration in a lot of ways. Or Sarah Burton, she's running a fashion empire for goodness sakes! She must have a brain somewhere in there to keep on top of everything whilst keeping the memory of Lee McQueen alive.

7. If you could study anything anywhere, what would it be?

Fashion Design...anywhere

8. What is your 'nerdy little secret'?

Oh I have far too many to mention! I think my most out-of-character is I'm a massive history nerd. I hated it in school because they mostly focused on WWI and WWII but I love watching documentaries and Time Team is my go-to daytime TV!

9. Favourite beauty gurus who you admire for more than their love for beauty/fashion?

Zoella is one I admire for her honesty, success and for being the first person to make me realise that having problems with anxiety is a lot more common than I had ever thought. Sam Chapman over at Pixiwoo is amazing, she started off as a vlogger and blogger like many of us and now she has an amazing line of Real Techniques make up brushes which the majority of beauty obsessives own at least one! (Me not included...boo you money!)

10. Name some things you're obsessed with that other people would find strange.

Time Team? Mark Rothko? My oddly large collection of thimbles?

11. Name 5 people that inspire you (not friends or family)

Oh dear all I want to say is my mummy (awwhh) but outside of friends and family I am massively inspired by Coco Chanel (shocker). This isn't just because I'm a fashion student but because of what she stood for. Women were constrained to the corseted figure for years, but she is credited with the liberation of this potentially life-threatening silhouette. She broke barriers, shocked people and was incredibly controversial but she stood up for what she believed in and succeeded!

The ever fabulous Lady Gaga! I want to work for her, designing for her is my dream! She proves that it's okay to be bonkers and be yourself no matter what.

Henry Holland. He inspires me so much as a designer, he started off doing what I do now. Making clothes and blogging from his bedroom...hopefully one day I'll be where he is today.

Mary Portas is an inspiration to a lot of people I think, she is so intelligent and knowledgeable within her field and her incredible drive and determination is something I admire her for.

Kate Middleton embodies grace, style, class and elegance and I think everyone can learn a few lessons from a true Princess.

12. Who is your intellectual soul-mate?

I love a bit of Stephen Fry!

Cheer Me Up Day

Hey lovelies, apologies for my absence I (among many in the blogger community) have been up to my big brown eyeballs in uni work but my biggest deadline is over yayyy!! I have missed blogging so insanely much so I'm excited to be tapping away right now.

So this weeks been a bit pooey, I've barely slept and my workload has threatened to crush me so now I have a day to myself I've realised how knackered I am both physically and emotionally. My anxiety is through the roof because of this and it resulted into the biggest, scariest panic attack I have ever experienced last week which I still haven't fully recovered from yet.

Today I decided I need a little pick me up, so I tidied my disgusting bedroom (a tidy room makes me feel so much better), had a long hot shower and set myself up for a pampering day. Happy music, the sun shining through and lots of lovely girly bits and bobs slowly bringing my body and mind back to a relatively normal state. Mani/pedi and a good exfoliate followed by a load of moisturiser is my idea of heaven!

I chose Barry M's Prickly Pear with Ciate's Sand Dune on my ring finger (and toes!) as my pretty, happy nail polish with a hefty load of Garnier's 7 day moisturiser. I feel human again!! Now for a girly romcom...

So, my question to you is what do you do to cheer yourself up?

Lincoln Trip

This Easter I decided I couldn't bear to be parted from one of my uni friends the ENTIRE 2 weeks so I hopped in my trusty car and drove to Lincoln to visit. I've never been and I can honestly say, I am completely in love with this place! I only had time to go for 2 days (boo uni work) so we just chilled, ate, drank and laughed! Here's a few piccies to try and show how cute and quirky the town centre is but I really don't think they do it justice.

I also did a teeny bit of shopping, I needed to pick up a red lipstick for a uni photo shoot so I took advantage of yet another 3for2 Boots offer. I initially wanted a darker, more matte look for this but I completely fell in love with how shockingly red Rimmel Apocalips in 'Big Bang' is and couldn't say no. This stuff lasts forever and is super super pigmented I can see why everyone is raving about it!

I also picked up 2 more Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine polishes (I reviewed another one a while back), in 'Lychee' and 'Prickly Pear' both of which I've had my eye on for a while.

I also had fudge too but that didn't make it into the picture....ooooops!

Anyway, hope you liked this post, I'd love to do more like this! What do you think?

What's in My Bag?

So I decided to give you lovelies an insight into what junk I carry round my on a daily basis! My handbag is a Primark £12 jobby, really spacious and a bit funky in my opinion. So the basics: purse (Primark like a billion years ago), tissues, phone, keys, pen, nail file. All boring sorry!

I always seem to carry sunglasses for some odd reason, this also means I break so many pairs because my bag gets bashed around constantly. I tend to stick to Primark cheap and cheerful ones to whip out if its a bit sunny (optimism ladies!) and I'm driving. These pretty ones are new and I picked them up for £2, I really liked the floral pattern round the edge and I only really suit large sunglasses.

A backcombing brush, I think £1 from Primark again. These are fab! I'm in need of a haircut at the moment so it is incredibly heavy and flat so I do need to keep touching up even though I know it is insanely bad for your hair!

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Perfume, I go through perfume like its going out of fashion so I tend to stick to cheapy ones from Next or M&S during the day and keep ones like this for the night. But I'm silly and have ran out so until I buy more I'm being naughty and using my posh perfume during the day. It;s just so lovely and elegant I can't help it.

Now we get to my ridiculous amount of lip products. I have no idea why I carry so much of this around I just accumulate it all!

Carmex cherry flavour is absolutely lovely and smells delish I love it!

Vaseline Cocoa Butter, again, a staple it has to be with me at all times.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hr cream, I got this in my Glossybox and I think its great for dry lips and for sticking on really dry patches of skin.

Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush, again I got this in my Glossybox and I love it, its such a pretty colour and goes on so nicely.

Barry M Ultra Moisturising Lip Paint in number 160 this is a really deep red/purple, great for nights out.

Topshop Lipstick in 'Whimsical', a matte peach so its perfect for Spring!

Hope you enjoyed this post! What are your handbag essentials?

Keeping New Years Resolutions

This new year has been a big one for me. Big life changes and big decisions to make. I saw it as only fitting for me to have big new years resolutions. Its a good while into the year and so far I'm doing rather well...

1. Restart a blog (last years one failed miserably)

CHECK! Although it took me until February to even begin putting this together, still I'm a proud panda.

2. BE HAPPY.

This one's my biggest one. The end of 2012 was a bit of a miserable one for little old me so I've decided I need to take a step back and have a word with myself. Anyone who knows me, and probably anyone who's reading this has gathered that I'm a bit bonkers but I love to embrace it. I lost my sunshine personality a bit but I'M BACK and madder than ever! Hopefully it provides a small amount of entertainment for those around me as I seem to have found myself in a few pickles recently. At least I get a good story out of it.

A while ago I was browsing the blogisphere when I came across Zoella's blog post about her cute bracelet and had a bit of a gander. I couldn't help myself and ordered a gorgeous 'happy' bracelet in silver as a reminder to myself for the year to be happy in life. (I am not going to talk about the nightmare surrounding the purchase of this, I HATE bad-mouthing sellers but, honestly, I seem to have had a really bad experience unlike most people.)

I am also one of the thousands of people that suffer from panic attacks and anxiety in certain situations and have done for the majority of my teenage years. If you are one of these people or have ever witnessed someone having a panic attack you will understand how important staying positive and moving forward is. They are horrible to experience, and often sufferers are very embarrassed and feel quite isolated by this condition. I refuse to let myself become someone who's life is ruled by their fears and I can see how incredibly easy it can be to slip into that so I thought having a physical reminder with me to stay positive would at least help. Plus they're just so lovely and a girl needs to treat herself every now and again!

The ever so beautiful Zoe's blog page...

The Etsy shop I purchased my treat from...

3. WEAR MORE COLOUR!!!

As my rather commanding blog name suggests, I am a stereotypical fashion student. We wear an awful lot of black and my wardrobe is starting to look like I go to far too many funerals. I need to inject a little more life into it, colourful clothes to match my colourful personality. (I apologise for that cringey phrase there but it had to be said.)

If anyone else suffers from any kind of anxiety or panic attacks, just know there's tons of us so you're not alone, you're not weird and you will get through it. :)Comment below if you feel like you can I would love to know someone got something positive from simply knowing there are people in the same boat.
